I have been through it frame by frame, but rather than repeat the labor of another Downton blog, here is the breakdown of the scenes at this blog:
So what is of note?
1. Mary is in deep despair if the Dowager actually has to tell her to choose life. It looks like Lord Gillingham (played by Tom Cullen) breaks through to her because in one of the scenes she looks up at him as if her heart skipped a beat. And they are smiling in another scene.
2. Rose seems to be livening everyone up too, and her jazz musician, Jack Ross (played by the darling Gary Carr, who gave up his time in Antigua to freeze in Hampshire for the role) looks exceedingly charming and, as the Russians say, "simpatichny." She also has Lord Grantham skipping excitedly. My, my, why is that?
3. Edith looks positively radiant and seems to be coming out of her ugly duckling phase (not that she was even vaguely ugly). She seems to be blossoming and is kissing her editor.
4. Anna and Bates are both happy and sad. In one scene, Anna pulls away from him and looks angry. In another scene, Bates is weeping. You have to love Brendan Coyle. He is such a good actor. At 25 seconds into the clip, we see Mr. Green for the first time, and he is giving that devilish grin for which Nigel Harman, who plays him, is ever so famous. That is immediately followed by Anna smiling and Bates behind her. I doubt that the sequence is insignificant, and you know my predictions about them. Will they come true?
5. There are kisses, tears, brawls, and battering ahead for some of the servants, but it is hard to get a good look at those involved. It seems that Mrs. Patmore is holding her stomach in one scene (Could it be food poisoning?), and Daisy is crying. Is it because of jealousy? Why does she like Alfred?
6. We see Tom looking unhappy, but also comforting Isobel ever so sweetly.
7. Edna is back, and that can't be good. But why is she there?
8. The underbutler is looking so handsome and roguish. He is definitely up to something. Is Edna somehow his idea? Or will Baxter be his collaborator?
9. We catch the first glimpse of Charles Blake, who is to be Mary's other suitor. He is drinking tea. Is it with Mary. Will he sing? (In real life, he is also a famous singer.)
10. It seems that Mrs. Hughes will see a man who seems to be in desperate circumstances. Is he an old boyfriend or long lost brother?
Perhaps more can be gleaned from this brief trailer, and we can certainly look forward to more speculation as the wait continues, but that is all I would like to observe for now.
P.S.
One lingering question remains, "Why with such a small cast do we have to have people with the same name -- Tom and Thomas, Sir Anthony Gillingham and Edith's Sir Anthony?"
